The Seattle Mariners have recently been near the top of the American League standings with players like Ichiro Suzuki, newcomer Kenji Johjima, Jamie Moyer, Joel Pineiro, Adrian Beltre, Richie Sexson and Raul Ibanez. The team had an off year last year, but 2006 looks promising. Ichiro continues to hit like no one else and the pitching staff is strong. Other players in the past (Ken Griffey, Randy Johnson, etc) never took the Mariners far enough so the new team will look to get to the World Series and do what their counterparts (the Seattle Seahawks) did in the Superbowl. Seattle has a lot to cheer for, especially with their new Safeco Field ballpark. With Ichiro making such a dramatic impact in Major League Baseball, the Japanese have a whole new interest baseball in the United States. More Japanese players are coming to America and discovering that their talents can match those of any big leaguer.
